Greetings from Your Women's Leadership Council Co-Chairs

Progress. Opportunity. Impact. Have you spotted United Way of New York City’s (UWNYC) Spread the Words campaign? From office elevator screens, to PATH train stations, to commercial spots during Rachel Ray, words are echoing through the boroughs and beyond in support of UWNYC’s ReadNYC program. Tell us where you’re catching the chatter! When you spy "Spread the Words", send a photo to UWNYC or post it on social media, tagging @unitedwaynyc and using #spreadthewords. And if you have yet to hear the Spread-the-Words word, learn more.

Beyond words, we’re spreading energy and passion for UWNYC and the Women's Leadership Council (WLC)! We are delighted to introduce Laura Clayton McDonnell and Corrina Davison, our newest Executive Committee Members.

And finally, as we look ahead to 2018, we're excited about our plans for our 12th Annual Power of Women to Make a Difference Award Luncheon, as well as UWNYC’s 80th anniversary.

ReadNYC Round-Up: A Seussical Session of Power-of-Women Impact

“You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.” —Dr. Seuss

On September 27, WLC members and friends from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Wells Fargo, BMO, Bank of America, American Express, Bloomingdale’s, and Colgate teamed up to make mountains of Dr. Seuss-themed reading packs that will help our ReadNYC families fuel their children’s at-home reading habits.

Behind the Scenes: UWNYC’s FeedNYC Program

On September 26, WLC members visited Beth Hark Christian Counseling Center food pantry in Harlem—going behind the scenes with UWNYC’s FeedNYC program, which works arm in arm with NYC food pantries and soup kitchens to strengthen their capacities to distribute healthy, fresh food to underserved neighborhoods across the City.

Erika Parkins, WLC Member and Senior Analyst, Emerging Technology at Hearst, recounts her experience:

“I know the need exists for emergency food but having the opportunity to visit the food bank at Beth Hark...provided a deeper connection to the cause for me. Seeing how United Way of New York City works with community organizations was great—the positive relationship between Beth Hark and UWNYC makes me feel good about donating!”

If you’d like to go behind the scenes with UWNYC, contact Meghan Droge (Senior Manager, Individual Giving and Donor Engagement) to stay up to date on our latest site visit opportunities.
