Greetings from Your Women's Leadership Council Co-Chairs

“I am an example of what is possible when girls from the very beginning of their lives are loved and nurtured by people around them. I was surrounded by extraordinary women in my life who taught me about quiet strength and dignity.” —Michelle Obama

As Michelle so eloquently remarks, her strength and dignity were not self-made. Sure, strength and dignity lived within her, but their potential needed to be unlocked and empowered. She could not be the woman and leader she is today without the powerful women that came before her and believed in her.

As we ready for our 12th Annual Power of Women to Make a Difference Award Luncheon and United Way of New York City’s (UWNYC) 80th Anniversary, we invite you to reflect on the women who came before you—inspired and believed in you.

At our Luncheon on March 7, it’s our turn to be the inspirers and believers. It’s time to help New York City’s low-income families realize and seize their inborn strength and dignity. We are the Women’s Leadership Councilwe have so much collective power. Let’s use it to love, nurture, spread the words, and most importantly fight for the future of those who need it most—the next generation of leaders.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Wahab Jeanine R. Khoury

Laura and Robyn

Meet Laura Clayton McDonnell and Robyn Zivic, our stellar Luncheon Host Committee Co-Chairs. When they’re not leading the terrific Luncheon Host Committee, Laura is a Vice President at Microsoft and Robyn is a Managing Director at CIBC World Markets. In anticipation of our Luncheon, we asked them to dish about empowering women and their communities.

Luncheon Fusion: Power of the Purse Unites Fashion and Impact

Power of the Purse

Get ready! Our Luncheon’s Power of the Purse auction opens February 21. With every bid, you’ll impact more than your sense of style, you’ll help ReadNYC families move along the path from surviving to thriving!

And as we join UWNYC’s 80th anniversary celebration, here’s some fun fashion history for all you fashionistas! In 1938, when UWNYC was just getting started in the world of philanthropy, the clutch bag was paving the way for women's fashion. By day, bags were a simple black, brown, or white, but by evening bedazzled with jewels and beads. And a high-end clutch would have only cost you $1.00!

Whether your style is simple or bedazzled, dare to show it off by treating yourself to a Power of the Purse item. Kicking off tomorrow!

We'd Hate for You to Miss Lunch on March 7, 2018
